By unanimous decision the first ACBS Board asked Emily Neilan Rodrigues to be the Executive Director of ACBS in July, 2006, and she happily accepted.
By default she has been acting in that capacity since 2004, when she performed the administrative duties involved in organizing the First ACT Summer Institute in Reno, Nevada.
Since then, she organized ACT SI II in Philadelphia, PA, in 2005, The Second World Conference on ACT, RFT, and Contextual Behavioral Science, in London, in 2006, ACT SI III in Houston, Texas, and ACT SI IV in Chicago, May 2008 (all with the help of many, many wonderful volunteers, local practitioners, and faculty).
If you have an ACBS question you can contact Emily at doact"@"nvbell.net (remove the quotation marks when emailing).
Note: Emily splits her time between ACBS and managing Context Press where she has been since Steve Hayes had hair. ACBS is gradually becoming her main focus, however, as the society grows and matures.

ACT
I have read most of the book and am using it with good results. I previously learned to gain increased awareness of my "Observing Self" by practicing Mindfulness Meditation starrting about 3 years ago. "The Book has clarified many issues, so I am able to practice observing my thoughts and feelings from my Observing Self, and my anxiety and isolating are reducing considerably. I joined with the intention to further my increased awareness in my ability to just observe with detached interest how my Word Machine operates. In this way I gain increased freedom to live my life in a more commited way. I might say that I thought the book was a little too technical at times and spent needless time explaining many of the Principles. My thinking is that it could be shortened and written in simpler terms and reduced content. I have had no professional help in learning Mindfulness techniques. Previously I had been suffering with 35 years of Depression and Anxiety from Burnout as an Air Traffic Controller at Chicago, IL for 25 years. After burnout I also had to deal with the problems associated with being the Father of 5 substance abusing children. One who died at the age of 19 years from an overdose. And I presently have 2 Adult Children who are Alcoholic and drug addicts. My Daughter is Recovering and going to AA and NA for a couple years now. My interest in Joing is to further my ability to gain better control of my life by mastering the techniques in the Book.
